Memory Marker:
I spent the hour of the 44th Presidental Inauguration at the Arena Sports Bar in Ann Arbor with my coworkers. Every one of their 15 or so TV’s were already on CNN. We got there at about 11:20 and within ten minutes the entire dining area was full. By noon they had run out of glasses. They allowed people who didn’t show up early (and found that no tables were available) to stand and watch.
The entire bar was completely silent from the swearing-in all the way until the end, with the exception of some wild applause and one woman shouting “TESTIFY! WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOH YEAH!” a couple of times. I’ve never seen anything like it.
