There was only one person in line ahead of me at my polling location today. It was a mildly mentally handicapped first-time voter (with his helper) and he was SO EXCITED to tell us all who he chose and why. He said, “I already decided who I’m gonna vote for! All by myself! Nobody is gonna take away my food stamps or my medicaid! I need that to live! That Romney is a real jerk. A REAL JERK!!”
It took a really long time for him to fill out his paperwork (birth date, name, address, signature) because he was nervous about not knowing what to expect, never having filled out a ballot before. His helper kept asking if he wanted assistance but he wanted to do it all by himself. I told him I was really glad he was there today and I really meant it.
